A summer 2012 , 13 episode anime.
Now the first thing I will say about this anime is that it is by P.A.Works and this studio is known for it's gorgeous scenery in it's animation. Every anime i have watched by this studio which has some of my favorite anime has been art for the eyes and this was no exception.
The basis of the story is that it is the last year of high school and Konatsu Miyamoto decides to form her own choir club after an incident in last year's choir leaves her on the sidelines. The story focuses on her and two of her friends forming the club and overcoming trials to fulfill her dream.
A touch of drama ensues as each girl overcomes something to fulfill the choir's goal. One dealing with an overbearing father who does not want his daughter to become a jockey and the other overcoming the death of her music loving mother.
Rivalry with the lead choir's sensei and a conflict with the school administration help to set the stage for a heart warming drama setting.
Takagaki Ayahi (who played Noe in True Tears) plays Wakana Sakai a girl who lost her mother and has been struggling with music ever since. And in many ways this drama arc is one of the more important and central arcs of the show . Touching a range of emotional chords in a very real way that brings out a lot of empathy for the character.
But it's the ending. the final triumphant heart warming arc that makes it worth the watch. I felt like applauding this group of kids.
The anime does have a preteen /teen air about and seems to be aimed at that audience so don't expect things to get too heavy like you'd see in a Key production but the feels are there both good and bad. Definitely a pleasant watch.
